Over 36 million people have now come forward to get boosted. This has been a monumental national effort and I am proud that the UK leads the world in boosters per capita. In Bromsgrove District, the response has been fantastic, and I would like to thank all the volunteers, clinicians, and administrative staff for their exceptional work.
I am also sure that everyone in Bromsgrove District will join me in thanking Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam, who, after four years as deputy chief medical officer, will be returning to his role at the University of Nottingham. There are not many clinical advisers who can be recognised solely by three letters, but JVT’s unique and straightforward approach to communication has seen him rapidly become a national hero.
As we look ahead, the clear priority is to ensure that more people come forward for the protection of the vaccine and booster. Our pharmaceutical defences—vaccines, testing and antivirals—are the best way to protect our health and our freedoms as we learn to live with Covid.
If you have not already come forward, please play your part in protecting yourself, your loved ones and the community.
