Primrose Hospice patron and Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid has raised over £13,000 for the hospice, in a charity run last Sunday.

Mr Javid, who is also the Patron of Primrose Hospice, took part in Sunday’s socially distanced Kew Garden 10k which had put special measures in place to keep runners safe.

As the sun shone down in Kew Gardens, Mr Javid crossed the finish line in 53 minutes and 44 seconds, raising an incredible amount towards the hospice.

Primrose provides free care and support for people with life-limiting conditions, their families and bereaved adults and children living in north east Worcestershire.

Mr Javid said: “I am delighted to have raised funds for the Primrose Hospice. Their work to support those with a life-limiting illness is so important and it is an honour to serve as their Patron”

“My aim was to raise £10,000 for the 10k run and I am so pleased that the total amount has gone well above that target.

“Thank you to everyone who supported me and the Primrose Hospice”

Primrose Hospice has continued to provide care and support to its patients and families throughout the pandemic.

The Family Support team have been working directly with people who have sadly lost a loved one to coronavirus as well as providing counselling for NHS staff working on the frontline.

David Burrell, CEO of Primrose Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Sajid Javid MP for completing the Kew Gardens 10k in aid of Primrose Hospice.

“What an incredible day for a socially distanced run and a brilliant amount raised which will make a massive difference to our community.

“As our patron, Mr Javid is aware of how we have risen to the challenges of providing essential care and support to our community, especially over the last six months.

“It is thanks to our wonderful community really digging deep and taking part in challenges, making face masks and continuing to donate to Primrose which has really helped us weather the storm.”

Primrose Hospice must raise £1.75million annually to be able to provide free care and support to those living in north east Worcestershire.
