Sajid Javid MP paid a visit to the Cancer Research UK shop on Bromsgrove High Street, to support their efforts to recruit additional volunteers.
Cancer Research UK Bromsgrove put out a call online, urgently requesting new volunteers to help the shop operate.
After seeing this, Sajid Javid offered his help to raise the publicity of the effort and encourage Bromsgrove residents to support the charity.
Cancer Research UK pioneers life-saving research to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
In the 1970s, less than a quarter of people with cancer survived. But over the last 40 years, survival has doubled – today half will survive.
Cancer Research UK aims to accelerate progress and see three-quarters of people surviving the disease within the next 20 years.
Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid said:
“It was great to meet the team at Cancer Research UK in Bromsgrove and support their efforts to recruit more volunteers”
“I encourage local residents to support this great charity – whether through volunteering or popping into the shop and donating”
Keith Hillstead, Bromsgrove Cancer Research UK shop manager said:
“People can save lives by giving as little as an hour a week to our shops. Our stores raise vital funds to beat cancer but they simply couldn’t exist without our volunteers, so we’re over the moon to welcome new faces to the Bromsgrove team!
”Since Mr Javid’s visit, we’ve seen the number of hours volunteered at our Bromsgrove Shop more than double, which is fantastic. We’re very grateful to the community but we still need more support.”
“COVID-19 has slowed us down but we will never stop. We are determined to continue our research to create better treatments for tomorrow, but we need help today. We would love to hear from anyone motivated by having an impact and looking for a friendly and supportive environment, work experience or to start a career in retail.”
