Sajid Javid MP

Last week, after his own battle with coronavirus, the Prime Minister returned to Downing Street to take the helm once again – and what a return it has been. Alongside chairing Covid-19 response meetings; working towards a possible vaccine; and cooperating with world leaders – the PM has also enjoyed the birth of his baby boy. I would like to congratulate Boris and his fiancée Carrie, on this fantastic, uplifting news

Last Thursday, the Prime Minister officially announced that we are past the peak of this disease. Our collective effort to protect the NHS has ensured that it has not been overwhelmed. The number of ICU beds and ventilators available has always remained above what is required, therefore avoiding the tragedy that has affected other countries. This is encouraging news, but there are still challenging days ahead.

Families in our community and across the UK are still losing loved ones because of this terrible disease. To defeat it, we must keep the reproductive rate of the virus down. I know it will be difficult, but by continuing to stay at home, we are supporting our care workers on the frontline and protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.

We have risen to the challenge so far. To emerge beyond it, more now than ever, we must work together. As ever, if you require my assistance, do email [email protected]
