Handling Concepts Ltd in Stoke Prior and Jukes Insurance Brokers in Sidemoor recently received a visit from local MP, Sajid Javid, who is backing their intention to use the Kickstart Scheme and support young people in Bromsgrove District.
The £2 billion Kickstart scheme has been designed to ensure young people at risk of long-term unemployment have the opportunity to enter the workplace, earn a living and gain valuable skills and experience in the process.
Under the scheme, employers that sign up will be able to offer youngsters aged 16-24 who are claiming Universal Credit a six-month work placement that is fully funded by the government.
Handling Concepts Ltd, a leading UK expert in material handling solutions for manufacturing production operations, is actively exploring the scheme to employ people in their manufacturing team and sales department.
Jukes Insurance Brokers, a family-owned West Midlands-based insurance broker that offers independent Personal Insurance and Commercial Insurance advice, is also planning to use the scheme to employ an administrative assistant.
The scheme will initially be open until December 2021, but there is the option for it to be extended. Young people will be referred into the new roles through their Jobcentre Plus work coach with the first Kickstarts expected to begin at the start of November.
Businesses interested in signing up to the Kickstart Scheme can find out more via https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/kickstart-scheme or via the Hereford and Worcester Chamber of Commerce at https://hwchamber.co.uk/support/kickstart-scheme/
