A NEW housing scheme on the former site of a landmark Bromsgrove car garage will provide some of the affordable homes Bromsgrove needs, the district's leading accommodation provider has promised.
Work is well under way on Bromsgrove District Housing Trust's Roman Court development, where 19 houses are being built on the former All Saints Garage site, on Birmingham Road.
The trust recently welcomed Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid to the site which will offer a mix of one-bedroom social rent and shared-ownership flats.
BDHT was given the green light for the scheme in September 2019, following the closure of the former car dealership in July 2019, and they aim to complete it by next spring.
Mark Robertson, chief executive at bdht, said: “There is a shortage of affordable homes across the UK.
"And this is particularly evident in Bromsgrove where the lack of affordable homes of all types is putting a huge strain on services and impacting detrimentally on the quality of life of so many people.
"That’s why it is so important that bdht continues to play its part in helping to combat this national crisis on a local level."
MP Sajid Javid added: “It was a pleasure to meet with bdht and to take a tour of their impressive Roman Court scheme.
"It is incredibly important that we continue to deliver developments such as this to Bromsgrove, not only for our local economy, but to help give people the chance to have their own home in their local area.”
