Sajid Javid's Pensioners' Fair Breaks Records
The fourth Bromsgrove Pensioners Fair has been hailed a success, after a record-breaking turnout saw over 500 retirees descend on Parkside Hall for a morning of free advice and entertainment.
More than 50 exhibitors set up stalls to provide retirees with free information, as well as the opportunity to fill diaries with upcoming events and meetings.
Local MP, Sajid Javid, cut the ribbon to open the event at 10:00am, with the Fair busy from the get-go and throughout the morning.
Attendees seized the chance to speak with over 50 local organisations – including the Bromsgrove Walking Sports Centre, Bromsgrove Flower Club, Care Force, The Artrix, Age UK and U3A.
Founder of Bromsgrove Walking Sports, Alan Gormley, said:
“As a new organisation it was the first time we’ve attended the Fair. I was very impressed with both the number of attendees and how well everything was organised. And it was very good to see so many organisations there looking to support our older colleagues”
Chairman of U3A, Mike Byrne said:
“This was a very good event, with a wide range of providers. It was very busy, and we talked to nearly 100 people ourselves, to whom we gave copies of our programme. We also had useful interactions with other providers, which we hope will bear fruit in the future.
Reflecting on a thoroughly successful event, Sajid Javid MP said:
“I’m delighted that over 500 retirees attended my fourth Bromsgrove Pensioners Fair, it’s our best turnout ever. The range of free advice and information on offer was fantastic and I hope to have played my part in helping elderly residents in Bromsgrove benefit from local organisations”
“But the Fair is about more than support – it’s also about celebrating our elderly community. Retirees make such a fantastic contribution to society and to our local area on a daily basis.”
“Over 50 local organisations and over 500 retirees attended today – that is a fantastic achievement and a testament to our fantastic community spirit. I’m already looking forward to the next Fair in 2021!”
With thanks to the Fairs sponsors: First Group, Bromsgrove District Council, Bromsgrove Golf Centre and DentaDenta.
